Compensation Specialist, Human Resources

Company:  University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO)

Essential Functions

  • Provide support for UNO campus compensation/classification activities including job documentations, job evaluations, salary administration with guidance and direction from Compensation Manager.
  • Assist with compensation and other department projects.

Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm

Additional Duties

  • Provide support to departments in preparing staff position descriptions in standardized form.
  • Evaluate staff positions using market relevant data, internal comparisons, and position audits to determine appropriate classification and salary ranges assignments.
  • Work in collaboration with department management for classification recommendations.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare wage salary data using both compensation theory and practices to provide recommendations.
  • Provide guidance to departments for new employee determinations and current employee pay adjustments.
  • Maintain records regarding an evaluation’s validity.
  • Maintain position descriptions (on paper or in module) to include review/creation for continued enhancements.
  • Assist with developing appropriate training documentation.
  • Review and edit posting requisitions for information related to classification data and to develop and maintain screening questions regarding required and preferred position qualifications.
  • Provide support to Human Resources departments, to strategic staffing and compensation areas, and to departments for ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Participate in development, implementation, and maintenance of related process enhancement initiatives.
  • Serve on various department or campus group initiatives as requested.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business administration or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • One year Human Resources related experience may include internship(s) and/or coarse-work related to human resources.
  • An equivalent of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience:  Higher education and compensation.

Preferred Certificates:  PHR, SHRM-CP or CCP
